Personal Propaganda

I am currently a PhD candidate in the boutique international economics program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. My areas of research interest lie at the intersection of international economics and formal political economy, although I have also ventured into various aspects of international political economy, information and communications technology, and international development.

Prior to this, I pursued a masters at the London School of Economics and jumped my undergraduate hoops at the University of Southern Queensland. I have also worked at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, as well as the former J.P. Morgan. You can peruse my resume or a more academic curriculum vitae. I also include a brief biographical sketch. In my fondest dreams, I am a geeky academic in a small, liberal arts college somewhere in New England (glipses available right here). My approach toward academic work (in general) and the discipline of economics (in particular) are summarized by my research and teaching philosophies.

My personal interests, outside of economics, include reading (I confess: I am bibliophilic), writing, cooking (Mediterranean, Asian), sport (in a previous life, I played rugby and basketball), and music (mainly the guitar and drums, although I have wandered into voice without much success). I love Blake's poetry, romantic movies, free markets, the sound of rain outside the windowsill, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and curling up in a plush sofa with a good book. In my wild and impestuous youth, I was a Solitaire junkie.

My friends have suggested that I am predisposed to an unusual (read: Weird) mode of thought. You can possibly ascertain those claims: I provide some lists that describe my revealed preferences, as well as a pseudo intellectual diary. In addition, samples of my work - both the mass-market and slightly more technical appellations - may be perused.

In accordance with my view of the importance of a spiritual side to life, I am a churchgoer, and I have variously served in the music ministry, children's ministry, and various sundry activities. As a counterweight to my incredibly boring choice of a profession, I pursue an active interest in wine. For for long-lost friends who would like to ascertain my identity - I include an embarassing mug shot.

Getting in touch: the superior way to contact me is through e-mail. Alternative methods include snail-mail or fax (for both see my CV or resume, above). I am also on ICQ; my handle is #598966, although I am seldom online (in this guise, at least). For secure communications, I utilize PGP; you can obtain my public key here, together with its associated fingerprint.
