Technical Overview
  • I have over ten years of Unix system administration experience with a variety of Unices: Linux (Debian, Red Hat, SuSE, Slackware, VA), FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, HP/UX, NeXTStep/Openstep, BSDi, Tru64/Digital Unix. The frightening thing is that I have the equipment to run all of these operating systems (and more) at home.
  • I've worked with Internet technologies for over ten years as well. I was the sixth employee at MindSpring, an ISP that is now known as Earthlink, where I had the opportunity to experience a small one-city ISP grow into a nationally-known brand during my four years there. Since then I have worked at many other companies such as Digital Equipment Corporation/Compaq, Netsurfer, and Danet. VA Linux Systems used me as a subcontractor to work with several of their professional service customers on Internet projects. I specialize in Internet email systems and am often called on to design/build/troubleshoot email server systems for Internet service providers.
  • I have quite a bit of experience working on overseas (non-US) projects. I built the first two-way MMDS Internet service provider outside of the United States in Nigeria when engineers from the equipment vendor refused to go there. This was the first system of its kind installed outside of the United States and the installation won a Wemmie award from the Wireless Communications Association in 2002. I lived in Nigeria for almost two years consulting with various Internet companies. Working on difficult projects in difficult conditions is a challenge I enjoy.
  • I have provided technical consulting services to startup ISPs in Yemen, Pakistan, Portugal, Nigeria, the Maldives, Cameroon, and many other countries.
  • My network hardware experience includes equipment manufactured by Cisco, Packeteer, Foundry, Avaya, Lucent, 3com, Hybrid, Cacheflow, and others. On the server hardware side I've worked with Sun, Digital/Compaq/HP, Cobalt, and Mirapoint.

    Management Overview

  • I've managed very different groups of people, from technical support engineers at MindSpring to the technical staff of a West African ISP located in multiple cities.
  • As the co-founder and managing director of a Nigerian ISP, I co-developed a business plan that recieved funding from a local investor. In this position, I worked with ministers and other government officials to obtain the many licenses and permits needed to conduct business.

    Business Development Overview

  • I have experience conducting business with many cultures throughout the world. Through my consulting practice I have worked with business, government, and parastatal organizations in over thirty countries on five continents.
  • While working at Comtrends and Danet, I performed business development work in recruiting potential customers throughout Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. As an independant business development consultant, I have introduced companies from Africa, the Middle East, and Asia to American companies looking to expand their business overseas.
  • As a result of my various overseas projects, I have excellent contacts in various private businesses and governmental/parastatal organizations throughout the world.
