I am pursuing a doctorate and working as research
assistant in the Programming
Methods Lab, here in EPF
Lausanne. My research interest is in
understanding and facilitating semistructured programming
(see my research proposal for details). I have a Dipl.Inf. degree from RWTH Aachen
and enjoyed being summer student at CERN.
My origin is Turkish. My first name Burak is pronounced
"burak" (International
Phonetic Alphabet),
"boo-ruck" (for English speakers) or
"bouraque" (for French speakers) and its Islamic meaning is
described here.
My screen name 'buraq' is actually another transliteration of the original Arabic,
however it is not related to
the IT company of the same name.
I am a Muslim, for which I praise Allah the most gracious, the most merciful. Muslims and Islam are the
target of massive disinformation campaigns, which is a pity.
Besides work, I play
some piano, read and go jogging. I try to contribute to open
collaborative efforts like Wikipedia (english and turkish
version) or Fedon
Kadifeli's Online
English-Turkish Dictionary of Computer Terms. As a
student, I was active in AEGEE, a great European
students' association, as speaker of the IT Working Group.
Though "retired", I follow AEGEE's activities from
far. You might want to check out AEGEE Tiki or the
World Summit on the
Information Society.
