If I join GIRL, what will I write to the members about? How did the name GIRL come about? What do I do if I want to quit? In the club we send out an activity e-mail. You can do as many activities as you'd like and the more you do the more points you receive. The activities are different and range in difficulty from making up silly dog names to composing your own New Year's letter. The one with the most points at the end of each round recieves a prize. To learn more about GIRL Activities please visit the GIRL Activities Area, where you will be able to find out everything you need to know! Back to FAQ Main Page Click here and you can see our penpal board. These are GIRL's that are currently looking for a penpal. You can also see a list of all of the girls in the club. The list is called our Member Book. When someone new enters the club they get put on the list. We also have the GIRL Bulletin, the GIRL Talk Mail List, and our Members Only Area (which is password protected and for active members only). Members can choose who to write to. Basically what the list does is
gather a list of all of the GIRL members, their ages, and when they
joined. We have a member who sends out a Welcome Letter to the new members
and usually members will write you if they are your age. We don't really have a "committee". What we do have are certain members with jobs. They assist in the address list, activity list, newsletter, GIRL Headquarters pages, etc. We even have a member who keeps track of Star's E-Mail Addresses! When a new job is available it's offered to the whole club. You can learn more about jobs in GIRL by visiting the GIRL Employment Office. Basically, you will have to either fill out an application or respond to an e-mail message. Sometimes, if it's a really important job you will have to write a paragraph saying why they should get the job. Back to FAQ Main Page We have girls from all across the world. Australia, Germany, Canada, Holland, almost everywhere. I don't have a complete list of where everyone comes from, but I'm sure when you write to the members they will tell you. Some GIRL's enter where they are from in the Member Book, this will give you a better idea of the many places our members are from. Back to FAQ Main Page Yes, every member has to have the Internet. GIRL is an Internet-based club and everything we do is on the Internet or through e-mail. Back to FAQ Main Page The Caught In The Web Newsletter is a monthly newsletter that you will get by the 2nd week of each month (usually) . We have a Senior Editor, Editor and we have a staff of reporters and columnists. We usually work on the newsletter on the weekends so that it can be out by Monday. Back to FAQ Main Page No. If you join while you're 14 (or younger) you will not have to quit the club when you turn 15, but you can't join the club if you're already 15. Once you join you're guaranteed a lifetime membership unless you want to quit. Back to FAQ Main Page The purpose of GIRL is to unite girls who enjoy writing letters. It was also to show that girls can do anything boys can. Mostly, the club was formed so that members could find penpals all grouped together. We also sponsor many activities on World Kids Networktm, like the Care Quest project and Roy The Dog. Back to FAQ Main Page ANYTHING!! You don't have to write specific things to people. Just write as if you're talking. Of course, you'll have to wait awhile to get a response! Basically, you can write about whatever you want, a teacher who is really annoying, a game you learned, almost ANYTHING goes! Back to FAQ Main Page GIRL, which stands for Girls Internationally wRiting Letters, was named when the club first started out. Monika Bough made up the name, but she didn't decide to name it this. The first few weeks of GIRL, it was just called "The Club". There weren't many clubs around so it was OK. After a period of time we started voting on names for the club. There were lots of good ones like, "The Hi-Tech Writers Club" and "The Caught In The Web Club", but the one that got the most votes was GIRL. "The Caught In The Web Club" was second in the running so, we made it our newsletter. Back to FAQ Main Page If you want to quit you just need to unsubscribe from the GIRL Mail List. Once you unsubscribe from the GIRL Mail List you are no longer considered an active member of GIRL, and you will no longer get the CITWN, activities, etc. Even if you have to quit, we will still consider you an honorary member of GIRL forever and always, and you will always be welcomed back to GIRL!
