Here, in alphabetical order, are a list of topics that keep me busy when I am not working.
[Computers, Cooking, Games, Gardening, Investing, Landscaping, Music, and Photography]
Not included in this list are Recreation/Sports and Traveling, since they deserved their own sections on my web site.

Computers

I have been interested in computers ever since my college days. At that time (early 1970's) small computers did not exist. But, I was studying Mathematics and taking computer science courses and I was impressed with the FORTRAN programming language. My career has been involved with computers ever since, but my interest in them carries over into my personal life. My first home computer was a Commodore 64 in 1983. I have had a home computer ever since. I have been using the internet since the mid 1990's, I have been networking home computers since the late 1990's, and I went wireless with my home network in 2002. I have built and serviced my own computers. But, I have never had an Apple computer, and I have never used Unix. My interest in computers is mostly that of a user. I am not one who is interested in the hardware and operating systems.

Cooking

During my single life (1972-1982) I learned to cook for myself. Since both my wives have been very good cooks, my time in the kitchen has become somewhat limited. I still like to help out, but it is more of a charitable gesture than a hobby that needs fulfilling. So, cooking is a fairly small hobby. However, I do like to bake breads and desserts. Perhaps someday I will post some recipes here.

Games

Mostly, I like games that involve thinking, logic, or problem solving. My two favorite computer games are Starcraft and Diablo II, but there are lots of other games I could easily get hooked onto! I enjoy computerized games that are sports simulations: racing, golf, and pool are my favorites. In addition, I enjoy some action games just for the suspense and thrills involved. Finally, I enjoy some board and card games for the social aspects of the game. Lately, I've enjoyed relaxing with a pencil and Dell Magazines' Math and Logic puzzles.

Investing

Since I've been unemployed, this hobby has taken a much bigger role. I've been investing since the 1970's. In the 1990's, I developed my own database for analyzing technology stocks. Right now, I am using Vector Vest software to help manage my trading. I also like Investor's Business Daily, but I am not currently a subscriber.

Landscaping/Gardening

As a homeowner, I have always been more interested in "decorating" the exterior than the interior. Although I am a handyman and do things around the house, those things are not a hobby to me. However, I do enjoy growing roses and making improvements to the landscape. I landscaped most of the backyard of the house in Gresham that is now my ex-wife's house. I don't have many pictures of that work. Since moving to Eugene, I've been unemployed and unable to spend any money on landscaping. Here is a link to pictures of some of the work I've done.

Music

I have never been much interested in playing music. I also do not have much interest in going to live concerts. However, I do like listening to music. In fact, I would rather listen to music than watch TV. Also, my favorite toy would have to be my music jukebox. I have had a Creative Nomad jukebox since early 2001. I bought my wife one in 2002, and I upgraded to the Nomad 3 version in 2003. I currently have over 2800 tracks arranged into 20 playlists. My favorite artists are Bach, Beethovan, Mozart, David Lanz, and Dave Koz.

Photography

I have never been serious with photography, but I do like to take pictures and I have always organized my pictures into photo albums. In 2000, I bought my first digital camera, an Olympus C-2020 Zoom. I still use it, but it may be time soon for an upgrade. I've scanned all my 20th century prints, so all my photo albums are digital and look great on my computer screensaver. I doubt that I will take any more film pictures. I even have a housing so I can take my digital camera underwater. Here is a page with my favorite shots.
