The first of Transparency International´s Global Corruption Reports was launched on 15 October 2001 and provides an overview of the state of corruption around the globe, covering the period from July 2000 to June 2001.

Editorial Advisory Panel members for the GCR 2005 were: Zainab Bangura, Merli Baroudi, Peter Bosshard, John Bray, Sarah Burd-Sharps, Laurence Cockcroft, Jorge Diaz Padilla, Dennis de Jong, John Makumbe, Devendra Raj Panday, Anthony Sampson, Emilia Sièakova-Beblava, Neill Stansbury, Frank Vogl and Michael Wiehen.

It is with great sadness that we report that Anthony Sampson, a dedicated member of the GCR Editorial Advisory Panel, and author of The Seven Sisters, Empires of the Sky, The Money Lenders, The Arms Bazaar, and Mandela: The Authorised Biography, passed away on 18 December 2004. We would like to offer our profound thanks for his contribution to the GCR, and offer our condolences to his family.
