We are recovering from a huge hardware failure (read below), if your diary is not back online yet, just make sure you are logged in and click here to have it put in the queue to be regenerated and that will speed it up.

11:20, tuesday march 22: sorry, members area is down for a moment, but we are fixing it right now, a hardware switch at the datacenter is messed up and I am getting them to figure out what's up and fix it.

12:36 pm: There was a problem where some gold users couldn't upload new images - try now, you can now, sorry. Also if you are gold and all your recent images have not come back yet, sorry, we are still working on recovering the ones that were more recent than the backups from the broken server, but it's a long process. If you have copies of them on your computer still, re-upload them, that'll be much faster. Super sorry about that. Oh also if you're gold and your %%option1%%, etc. fields are not showing up, just add an entry and they'll be fixed.

3:52 am: We're closer to normal, lots of diaries have been regenerated, lots of bugs fixed (and one added but then fixed, but if your diary looks screwy, just click the regenerate link there to fix it). I'll keep this page updated.

9:43 pm: Forgot to add, click here to enter the members area. Stil fixing fixing fixing.

7:10 pm: Okay, everything is up. Things are still wonky here and there, but I am fixing them. Mostly if you have any private entries, you currently cannot get to them on the web. Also if you have a locked diary, that is not working yet. In both cases, you can still read your entries through the members area. I will be up all night fixing this and any and all other things that are wonky, so email me with problems (again, andrew at diaryland dot com), I'll update this again soon.

5:59 pm: Sorry, site down momentarily while I fix something important that I just realized.

5:40 pm: The members area is back up and you can add and delete entries, change your template, etc. There are some things you can't do that have been un-linked for now, and a few things may give you problems, but I fixing them right now. Feel free to let me know any weirdness you run into in case I miss something.

4:10 pm: Okay, gold diaries are up again, but some are not showing up correctly - don't worry, those are being regenerated as we speak. If you have one and want it fixed faster, just email me and I will pop it in faster (andrew at diaryland dot com). Images are coming back as we speak. I can't believe how long this has all taken, I really apologize, it's insane and frustrating.

2:15 pm: Sorry, diaries are back down for a short time while I fix a problem with the formatting on certain ones. If your diary was up just now but looked sort of screwy, I'm on it.

1:40 pm: Okay, as you may have noticed, most of the gold diaries are back up. There are a few things missing on them, but images are coming back in a short bit, and comments pretty soon too, and then I'll start regenerating the non-gold diaries and get the members area back up.

7:32 am: Lots of progress, will probably have a bunch of diaries online in the next couple of hours.

1:05 am: Slow going, but still at it, just wanted to add an update. Definitely this will take overnight at least to get the lion's share of diaries regenerated. These times are all eastern by the way. Sorry again, ugh.

8:51 pm: UGH. Diaryland has been down for several hours. Two out of three drives in the RAID array on the main web server died for some reason, so we have had to put up a new server and copy the site over there. No entries are lost, we have backups of those and the database servers are fine. The main problem is just that we now have to regenerate all the diaries from backups on the new server, which unfortunately will take a long time, overnight at least, because there are so, so many. The order they are regenerated will be all the gold diaries first, and then by the time the diary was last updated.

I can't believe this has happened on the new server after the exact same thing happened 2 months ago on the old server and we moved the site to this one, it's absolutely unreal. This whole day has been a total nightmare for me, it's so stressful and depressing to have to go through this whole ordeal all over again.

Anyway, the upshot is, for the night you probably will not be able to add entries, hopefully everything will be up and running normally tomorrow though. The backups we have of images directories are not up to the minute (like the entries are), but we will have almost all of them back, and possibly all if the recovery on the broken hard drives ends up working okay, although we're not sure on that.

I will update this page as the night goes on. If you are reading this days or weeks from now and wondering why the site is down, it means your ISP has cached this page in a proxy server and you need to contact them and get that fixed.
