Hong Kong Fooey... but fun, 27th March 2004
A Customer from Reading, England

*Serious* HK Action nuts wail over how the mighty Tsui (Pronounced Tchoy) Hark maker of the allegedly awesome Once Upon A Time In China (it's in my queue) could be reduced to making adolescent Power Rangers rip offs like this. I think this kind of misses the point. If you were expecting a movie called Black Mask 2: City of Masks to be any kind of art then you need to learn to judge a DVD by it's title.

Tobin Bell phones in a passable performance (for Bell at his best go for the latter parts of 24 season 2) and Jon Politto also takes the money and does a by the numbers sleazy wrestling promoter. Traci Lords continues to be unable to throw off the stigma of being 'that chick who made blue movies underage' which is a massive shame as she's actually quite talented.

Andy On does well as the Black Mask but whether he can really act or not is not clear or, indeed, relevant given the source material. The martial arts is entertaining but not spectacular.

Basically this is the martial arts equivalent of one of those spoof movies that attempts to keep you entertained with a selection of cheap and chunky throwaway ideas and on the whole succeeds in delivering only what it promises and no more.

Overall, good fun but nothing super special.

This is the movie that put an end to my little flirtation with all things Hong Kong Fuey. After seeing and reading about Kill Bill and The Matrix movies i decided to check out what all the fuss was about. I think decent movies of this genre are really hard to find and there are more rotten eggs out there than good. This plays like a TV pilot of the Power Rangers ilk, poor special effects, dull fight scenes and men in monster suits. The lead actess is easy on the eye but can't save this movie from the bin marked mediocre. Best to be avoided.

Check out 'Iron Monkey' or the Matrix movies instead. If you still need some Asian action then check out John Woo's 'The Killer' or the Korean made 'Shiri'.

Dire, Straight to video (DVD) sequel. A flimsy plot and questionable effects make this a film worth watching only for the comedy of seeing actors truly believe that they are supposed to stop mutant wrestlers!

DAMON VAZQUEZ from HUNGERFORD, BERKSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM

This is a very good action movie, very underated lots and lots of action, this film is dubbed into english but does not spoil it all in the kill bill sense. I Bet this is on tarantinos hit list. Watch then grap a chinese, roll on fortune cookies!!

Good Solid Kung-Fu'ery, 21st May 2004
Jamie Sherlock from Corsham, WILTSHIRE

Great movie. If ya like martial arts & hong kong movies, this is ideal for you.

Superbly imaginative action set pieces and suprisingly good effects make up for a weak story. What else could you expect from the director of 'Once Upon A Time In China'.

Grab a beer a settle into your favorite chair, quality.

Genetically Enhanced Superhero, 18th March 2004
Tony from Essex

For those of you who haven't seen the first film (like me), this is basically about a genetically enhanced asassin who has chosen to fight for good rather than evil and his boss isn't too happy.

Our superhero has to fight bad guys who have had their DNA spliced with animal DNA, creating some crazy if unformidably named characters (Iguana & Chameleon!?!).

However, it wasn't that bad really, it's a bit like a mix of Dark Angel (but a little less serious) and Guyver (with better make-up and special effects).

There are quite a few well SEEN actors in this film, a few actors I knew but wouldn't know the name of if asked.

Oh, and check out for the leading lady's condition, it's really nuts, and keep an ear out for the explaination, you could easily miss it.
Check Out...
