Parents & Subsidiaries

The following sample searches illustrate common methods for searching for parent and subsidiary company information:

These searches use a search method called segment searching.


Corporate Hierarchy

Use the COMPANY segment to find information about a company's subsidiaries, branches, and affiliates. For example, take the following steps to find the companies affiliated with PepsiCo, Inc.:

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Directory of Corporate Affiliations™:
    Company & Financial / Company Profiles & Directories / Individual Publications / Directory of Corporate Affiliations
    NOTE: Because the LexisNexis services list some of the most popular sources on the main search page, you can often link to the source you want directly from the Look for a Source box.
  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter company ( pepsico ) in the search field.
  6. Click Search.

Use a HIERARCHY segment search to retrieve information about a company's subsidiaries, branches, and affiliates. For example, take the following steps to find companies affiliated with PepsiCo, Inc.:

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Directory of Corporate Affiliations:
    Company & Financial / Company Profiles & Directories / Individual Publications / Directory of Corporate Affiliations

  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter hierarchy ( pepsico ) in the search field.
  6. Click Search.

Parent or Subsidiary

Use a COMPANY-TYPE and a SALES segment search to find information about a parent or subsidiary with a certain amount in sales. For example, take the following steps to find the parent companies of businesses with $10 billion or more in sales:

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Directory of Corporate Affiliations:
    Company & Financial / Company Profiles & Directories / Individual Publications / Directory of Corporate Affiliations
    NOTE: Because the LexisNexis services list some of the most popular sources on the main search page, you can often link to the source you want directly from the Look for a Source box.
  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter company-type ( parent ) and sales > 10,000,000,000 in the search field.
  6. Click Search.
NOTE: The SALES segment is arithmetically searchable.

Ultimate Parent Location

Use a U-PARENT-CN segment search to retrieve documents about companies whose ultimate parents are located in a specific company. For example, take the following steps to find companies whose ultimate parent company is located in New Zealand:

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Directory of Corporate Affiliations:
    Company & Financial / Company Profiles & Directories / Individual Publications / Directory of Corporate Affiliations

  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter u-parent-cn ( new zealand ) in the search field.
  6. Click Search.

SIC

Use an SIC segment search to retrieve documents about companies with specific SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) codes. For example, take the following steps to find parent and subsidiary information on companies with the SIC code 3751 (motorcycles, bicycles, and parts):

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Directory of Corporate Affiliations:
    Company & Financial / Company Profiles & Directories / Individual Publications / Directory of Corporate Affiliations

  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter sic ( motorcycle ) or description ( motorcycle ) and country ( u.s. or united states ) and not u-parent-cn ( u.s. or united states ) or company-type ( parent ) in the search field.
  6. Click Search.

Company Name

Use a COMPANY segment search to find a list of subsidiaries of a particular company. For example, take the following steps to find the subsidiaries of JLG:

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Disclosure(R) Online Database-US Public Company Profile:
    Company & Financial / Company Profiles & Directories / Individual Publications / Disclosure(R) Online Database-US Public Company Profiles

  4. Click the radio button in front of Terms and Connectors.
  5. Enter company ( jlg ) in the search field.
  6. Click Search.

Exhibit 21

Use a COMPANY segment search to find a list of subsidiaries in Exhibit 21 filings. For example, take the following steps to find the list of subsidiaries that Coca Cola filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission:

  1. Click Search on the LexisNexis® toolbar.
  2. Click the News & Business source tab.
  3. Click the following links in the order listed to search Exhibit 21. Subsidiaries of the Registrant:
    Company & Financial / Financial Filings / U.S. Financial Filings / Exhibit 21. Subsidiaries of the Registrant
