- REMEMBER FANS, BERNIE DESERVES OUR RESPECT
- ESPN Fantasy Games Yankees Correspondent
- May 15
- Recent changes have sent BERNIE WILLIAMS to the bench, and lately some fans have begun to speak poorly about him. But real NYY fans know that Bernie deserves our respect, for all that he has done here. He may not be able to play CF anymore, and he may have the throwing arm of a 3-year old girl right now. But Matsui doesn't have a great arm, and while he is an upgrade in CF, how much of a downgrade will Womack be in LF? I know Williams is not what he was a few years ago, and I don't necessarily disagree with removing him from the outfield. But one day his #51 will hang with the immortals, and fans should remember all he has done for this organization before they badmouth him. Besides, Bernie Williams has been here since the dark years, which is more than I can say for most NYY fans.
