2 Update: Sam Raimi has been talking about what we can
expect from Spider-Man 2 and it does sound good "The next one is
going to seem a little smaller and more intimate. I hope people are
not hoping it's bigger and better. Hopefully, they'll think it's
smaller and better. I really turned the film inward on the
characters, and it seems like that's what the audience responded to
in the first film. So we focused on developing the characters to the
next level, and the actors have taken the performances, all of them,
up a notch".

Franco, Rosemary Harris, Donna Murphy and J.K. Simmons.
"Spider-Man 2"

tour with Jessica Simpson (High School Tour) and during the Q&A
she was asked about Spider-Man II. She WAS signed to Spider-Man II
and DID film, but due to other commitment in other projects she
dropped out. Later that week, director of the movie, Sam Raimi,
debunked the rumor of Felicia Hardy being in the movie (too late to
cast anyone new)... She did say, that in order to leave Spider-man
II, she did have to sign on for Spider-man III. So look for her to
be in Spider-man III, as there are already plans for it."

Wednesday 23rd July 2003: Spider-Man 2
Update: Sam Raimi and Alfred Molina have been chatting about the
British actor's role as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. The director
says Molina "has some of the qualities of a loved character. Doc
Ock had to have a commanding presence and intelligence. He's got the
look of a bodybuilder from 1954. His many arms can really put an
agile athlete like Spider-Man to the test.” Molina, who is 50,
had to bulk up to play the villain, undertaking a vigorous
training regime in order to carry the character's heavy, 13-foot
long expandable arms, which he will move with the help of
puppeteers. Regardless, the actor has no regrets: "I'm told he's
one of the more popular villains. It would have been foolish to
have said no."

Tuesday 22nd July 2003: Spider-Man 2 Update: Here's
the official synopsis for Spider-Man 2 : Two years have passed, and
the mild-mannered Peter Parker faces new challenges as he struggles
with "the gift and the curse," desperately trying to balance his
dual identities as the web-slinging superhero Spider-Man and his
life as a college student. Tormented by his secrets, Peter finds
that his relationships with all those he holds dear are in danger
of unraveling. His life-long yearning for M.J. (Kirsten Dunst)
becomes even stronger as he fights the impulse to reveal his
secret life and declare his love. His friendship with Harry
Osborn (James Franco) is complicated by the young Osborn's
bitterness over his father's death and his growing vendetta
against Spider-Man. Even Peter's beloved Aunt May (Rosemary
Harris), who has fallen on hard times after the death of Uncle
Ben, begins to have doubts about her nephew. Peter's life is
about to become even more complicated as he encounters
a formidable new foe -- Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina). Peter
must use all the powers at his disposal to try to stop this
diabolical madman in his octagonal tracks.

Update: Just received the following email with information on
the rumoured casting of Brooke Adams "The rumors of Brooke
Adams playing Felicia Hardy were recently denied despite the several
pieces of evidence. They have been dismissed as lies and that Brooke
Adams was only using this Rumor to gain attention. Even more Brooke
Adams has only done two films (Old Boyfriends back and What I want
to be when I grow up.) and a radio show which she used to start the
Rumor. Now every girl from Elisha Cuthburt to Britney Spears are now
rumored to be trying for the role!" Thanks to Jimmy

Curt Connors AKA the Lizard in Spider-Man 2. I stress this is
RUMOURS at this stage.
 Wednesday 28th May 2003: Spider-Man 2
Update: Rumours are circulating that a focus group were
quizzed by Sony as to what they wanted the title of Spider-Man 2 to
be. Titles included Spider-Man Unmasked. Spider-Man 2 Lives.
Spider-Man No More. Personally I think all three are shite. Call it
Spider-Man 2, it's only a title after all.
 Monday 12th May 2003: Spider-Man 2
Update: Looks like those dark rumours of Tobey Maguire having
been sacked from Spider-Man 2 weren't a rumour after all. He had
asked if the production of Spider-Man 2 could be moved to fit
around his schedule and his bad back that he had got while
filming Seabiscuit. The filmmakers on Spider-Man 2 needed Maguire
to come in for an eight hour computer scan that was essential to
get started on FX shots for Director Sam Raimi. Maguire had this
to say about the furore "I could have come in a little earlier, but
I was exhausted and didn't understand the importance of it," said
Maguire. I was working [on Gary Ross' Seabiscuit] six days [a
week], 14 or 15 hours a day, and then it was, 'Do I want to go in
on the seventh day for an eight-hour cyberscan?' If I had
understood the great importance of it for Sam, then I probably
would have kicked myself and done it anyway." Sounds like someone
came down to earth with a bump. He realised he could not let the
role slip away from him and he decided to fight back and get the
role back "A lot of this problem comes from me not having gone to
them personally and trying to resolve it."
 Monday 12th May 2003: Spider-Man 2 Update: Just

Felicia Hardy in Spider-Man 2. Thanks to Jimmy!

 Saturday 3rd May 2003: Spider-Man 2
Update: Just received the following great scoop on Spider-Man
2 "My friend in L.A. got a pass to witness a Spider-Man 2 filming
session via connections he has with a friend who is involved with
the Spider-Man 2 production. The scene he witnessed as of Doc Ock
waking up in the hospital after being fused with his arms in the
accident that makes him Doc Ock. They had rehearsed the scene for
weeks for the scene that will take 5 minutes on screen. Sam Raimi
wanted to achieve the result by using as little CG as possible. The
arms are robotic, puppetry and other technologies. THe little arms
within the arms are real and fully functional. In the scene Doc Ock
throws a doctor across the room and he flies thru a wall. The wall
was rigged with explosives and the stunt man who was standing in for
the doctor was left a little stunned after the take. They used seven
different cameras to film the shoot to get as much coverage on it as
possible." Our scooper also had another tidbit on the Spider-Man 2
production "Sam Raimi needed a subway car from Chicago for a scene.
The city of Chicago sent him one but they needed 4...so they
proceeded to take the car apart and refabricate 3 new ones piece by
piece. " Thanks to VR for this great scoop!

Update: FX maker Mark Sagar has been talking about Spider-Man
2 that he will be working on "During the first movie, virtually all
the action shots involved Spider-Man with his mask on. But this time
there will be extended computer-generated sequences in which
Spider-Man has his mask ripped off. The techniques I'm using are the
most realistic yet, but require data acquisition from the
subject. However, there are quite complicated ways to modify this
data to make it look like someone else."

Update: The Hollywood Reporter has revealed details about the dispute
raging between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel over
Spider-Man. The publication says that character rights owner
Marvel is seeking more than $50 million in damages as well as
termination of the license agreement with Sony for Spider-Man,
last year's top-grossing film. Marvel accuses Sony of fraud and
attempting to misappropriate the franchise for its own benefit.
Sony has countered with its own suit, accusing Marvel of using
inappropriate accounting to deprive Sony of certain
merchandising revenue. Meanwhile, a number of production shots

a great set report from Spider-Man 2. Here's a snip "While walking
along the aforementioned walkway some asshole sped by me on a moped.
By the time I reached the first tower (west tower) I noticed that
there was an increased police presence. Suddenly a four-wheeled John
Deere ATV drove by. This I found odd. I continued on my way to the
second tower (east tower), up ahead I saw another ATV (looked like a
Suzuki ,but I'm not sure though). This one had an Arri 35mm motion
picture camera on a steadicam arm mounted to the vehicle with
several crew on board. Suddenly the asshole with the moped returns
and stops right next to me. "Great. Who's this?". The ass was Tobey
Maguire and I had inadvertently walked on to location shooting for
Spider-Man 2 "

Update: James Franco has been talking about what may happen
with his character Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spiderman "Well, in
the comics Harry vows vengeance. He eventually finds his father's
suit and becomes the second Green Goblin. He also eventually finds
out that Spider-Man is Peter Parker and so is then torn between his
friendship with Peter and his anger towards Peter. So, I'm sure it's
a possibility but I don't think we want to see another Green Goblin
in the second one. My guess is that Harry will go through some angst
and Spider-Man will fight Dr Doom or Sandman or somebody else. Harry
Osborn doesn't become ... I don't know, evil so much as troubled.
The Green Goblin has a madness to him and is taken over by this and
Harry, I think, goes in the same direction. His father was his whole
life and it was the goal towards which he was striving. And his
dad's taken away from him just when he gets acceptance, so he never
has that. It spins him off into a sort of madness. So yeah, I guess
that's where Harry goes. It's always more enjoyable to do
that".

for Spiderman alone. Coming Attractions scored the following inside
scoop "...Doc Ock is standing behind a desk and he picks up the
phone, puts on a pair of glasses, pops a cigar into his mouth,
lights the cigar, and dials the phone. The smoke alarm on the
ceiling goes off and he smashes it with one of his tentacles. Then
he starts to sit down (without looking) and another tentacle reaches
out behind him and grabs a chair-placing it under him in the nick of
time. Bear in mind that all of this happens
simultaneously."

Saturday 2nd November 2002: The Amazing Spiderman
Update: Sam Raimi has been talking about what he wants to
achieve with the Spiderman sequel "I think my job, and what I'm
eager to do, is really get inside the head of Peter Parker [Tobey
Maguire] and Mary Jane Watson [Kirsten Dunst] and Aunt May [Rosemary
Harris]. I want to find out where we left them in the minds of the
audience and find out what journey the audience was on and
accurately determine what they would now want to see and what
conflicts there may be next in the characters' lives and what the
characters' next evolution as human beings would be. That's the most
important part of Spider-Man for me: Peter Parker as a human being,
watching him as somebody that I really identify with, as somebody
who's got daily struggles [and] is wrestling with responsibility and
personal desire. I want to tell a story where the audience can
really relate to him on a deeper level than they did in the first
one, maybe not [with] a diminishment of the action, but [with] a
deeper exploration of Peter Parker as a human being".

August 2002 : Spiderman 2
Update: Filmforce published some snippets from an interview that
the writers of Spiderman 2 Alfred Gough and Miles Millar had gave to
comic magazine Wizard, we reprint that here:
How did
you guys move from "Smallville" to getting involved with "Spider-Man
2"?
Gough: We got a
call from Columbia Pictures and we went and had a meeting. They
actually took us over to the set of the first "Spider-Man" and we
met Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and [Producer] Laura Ziskin. And they
basically said they'd like us to consider writing the sequel because
they really like "Smallville" and "Shanghai Noon." And you call us
up and invite us to the set like that, nine out of 10 our answer
will be "yes."
Millar: We've
always been huge fans of Sam Raimi. So for us, it's really like a
dream come true.
Gough: We were
told once, "You guys had done the Marvel Comics version of
Superman." So to have Marvel Comics come to us and ask us to get
involved in this, that was a real thrill!
How has
"Spider-Man 2" changed now that the original film's screenwriter
David Koepp is writing the first draft of the
script?
Gough: David's
finished his script and turned it in and we're basically working
with [director] Sam Raimi, [producer] Laura Ziskin and [Marvel
Studios President] Avi Arad on the story. We'll use ideas that he
wanted to write-and write exclusively-Columbia asked us, "Hey, we
know this is a strange situation, but would you mind doing this?" We
said, "Sure." I think Columbia felt that since he wrote the first
movie, he had earned a right to do this. He took a shot at a script
and there's some ideas that we'll use as we formulate the story with
Sam and everyone else.
How will
Peter Parker evolve in the sequel?
Gough: We can't
really talk too much about the story-because the X-Men will be sent
out to kill us-but you will see Peter grow and evolve. That's really
the story Sam wants to tell. You'll see him grow as a person, a
superhero and in all his relationships.
For you
work on "Spider-Man," are you guys doing a bunch of research? Are
you guys looking for graphic novels to read? What's that process
like?
Gough: We look
at the comic and history of Spider-Man. A lot of it though is really
talking to Avi Arad who is just an incredible fountain of knowledge
on the entire Marvel Universe. Again, you want to get some research
but you don't want to get mired in it either.
Millar: We've
read a lot of comics now and we've also read the Ultimate Spider-Man
books. We have definitely done our homework.
Friday 23rd August 2002 : Spiderman 2
Update: Producer Kevin Feige has debunked rumours that
Christopher Walken was in talks to take a role in Spiderman
2.
Tuesday August 20th 2002: Spiderman 2
Update: Rumours are circulating today that Christopher Walken
is to play Dr. Octopus the the Spidey sequel. Nothing confirmed yet,
but we'll keep you posted.
Tuesday 20th August 2002 : Spider Man 2
Update: James Franco has told Sci Fi Wire of how his role as
Harry Osborn will go in the upcoming Spidey sequel. "All I can say
is the first film was pretty loyal to the storyline in the comic
book, and I assume that the second will be, and that Harry does take
a turn for the dark side, Maybe that'll be developed in the second
one. I don't know the specifics. There were three episodes of
Spider-Man that were banned by the comic board, where Harry indulges
in some form of narcotic, It didn't specify, but I think it was
during the '60s or '70s, and it looked a little like LSD. That might
happen in the second one."
8th May
2002: Spiderman 2 Update: It comes as no surprise due
to the overwhelming sucess of the first Spiderman movie over the
weekend at the US box-office ($114 million in three days), that Sony
have greenlit Spiderman 2, due for release on May 7th 2004. Sam
Raimi has already signed on the dotted line to return as director
and Tobey Maguire and Kireten Dunst will once again star. Alfred
Gough and Mile Millar will write the screenplay. They are the
writers behind Smallville, Superman The Early
Years.
''It's sort of a thrilling and daunting task to do
the sequel,'' Gough tells EW.com.
''They've really hit one out of the park in the first movie, which
is great, because it leaves you a lot of areas to explore in the
sequel.'' Some films tie up so many loose ends that a follow-up
seems superfluous, he says. But given Harry Osborn's vow of revenge
on Spider-Man (he blames him for the death of his father, Norman,
a.k.a. the Green Goblin), Aunt May's precarious health, and
Mary-Jane's possible discovery of Spidey's secret identity, there's
plenty of story webs left to be spun in this franchise. ''You sort
of go, hey, we can only do so much in the second movie,'' Gough
laughs.
Kirsten Dunst has apparently revealed to
Entertainment Weekly that the villians in the sequel will be Dr.
Octopus and the scientist-turned-scaly-human-reptile the Lizard.
Another possibilty could be the Hobgoblin which apparently is
suggested in the conclusion of Spiderman (i've yet to see the film).
Sreenwriter Gough won't say who we can expect to see, ''I can't
really talk about it -- Avi Arad will send the X-Men out to kill
me,''
Meanwhile over in New York, Marvel Enterprises,
Inc. CEO Peter Cuneo has said that they recieved "a substantial,
seven figure advance" from Sony Pictures for Spider-Man
2.
Shooting is scehuled to begin early next year.
