The newlywed Shrek and Princess Fiona are invited to Fiona's former kingdom, Far Far Away, to have the marriage blessed by Fiona's parents--which Shrek thinks is a bad, bad idea, and he's proved right: the parents are horrified by their daughter's transformation into an ogress, a fairy godmother wants her son Prince Charming to win Fiona, and a feline assassin is hired to get Shrek out of the way. The computer animation is more detailed than ever, but it's the acting that make the comedy work--in addition to the return of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, Shrek 2 features the flexible voices of Julie Andrews, John Cleese and Antonio Banderas, plus Jennifer Saunders as the gleefully wicked fairy godmother. --Bret Fetzer Synopsis

It lived up to it. Wouldn't say it was better but it's definately a 5 star film. In the first one, Eddie Murphy's Donkey was easily my favourite character. In this fim, that position is heavily contested with every other character such is the high standard of voice talent. Starting with Donkey, he's still as brilliant and adorable as he was in the first one. Especially as a "Stallion, baby!!" Shrek and Fiona are much the same as they were in the first film although they do have their arguements but ultimately we know they'll live 'happily ever after'. Two new additions to the cast who surpass my expectations by far are the wonderful jennifer Saunders and Antonio Banderas. I expected them to be good, but they made the part their own and it's impossible to imagine anyne else doing the part now. Saunders is brilliant as the sauve yet sly Fairy Godmother (not the nice old lady we'd expect!) and Banderas makes the absolutely adorable Puss in Boots hilarious with his annoyed cursing in Spanish when he falls of the horse/Donkey. One of the good things about the first film was it's excellent soundtrack. This film is just as good on songs but why, oh, why did they have to use a cover of David Bowie's 'Changes'? They also cover Holding Out For A Hero but given the circumstances it's used in the film they get away with this. They shouldn't have covered changes though. The extras are excellent. Far far away idol (with simon cowell as voice guest). Watch the Shrek characters compete to be crowned far far away idol and vote for who you'd like to win. Also, there are technical goofs and making of feautrettes. All in all, it's still a 5 star film. The original is the best, but this one follows closely mainly due to the strong cast, witty jokes and decent soundtrack. I think even if I was intending to give this film any less than 5, remembering Puss in Boots' big eyes would change my mind. Go for it. For adults and kids alike, this is first class animation.
Again, well made, funny with typical everyday humour. It's fun to see how the makers of Shrek and Shrek2 have put a twist on the names of shops and places, food and other things we see today in the film. I know it has been done in other films, but it is always funny to see these things. This is where we get to see Shrek as a human. My wife quite fancied the human version of Shrek! (strange woman). I can see the ever so slight Cameron in Princess Fiona human, but not a shread of Myers as Shrek human. Donkey is transformed into a powerful white horse. The story goes that Princess Fiona was supposed to marry Prince
Charming, but she obviously fell for Shrek. So a ploy to lure the happy
couple by Princess Fiona's parents in an attempt to keep Prince Charming's
mother happy, who is actually blackmailing the King... now i insist you go
out and rent or buy the film, well worth the effort. Good all round family
entertainment.

The characters are pure fairy tale fantasy - which is exactly what it's meant to be; a modern fairy tale. It is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud and appeals to both adults and kids. I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs cheering up!
