Council Resolution 1483
The UN Monitoring, Verification and
Inspection Commission was
created by the 1999 Security Council resolution 1284.
It replaced the former UN Special Commission (UNSCOM). Unresolved Issues
Report (Mar.
6) Mandate: to
continue with UNSCOM's efforts to disarm Iraq of its
weapons of mass destruction and to check Iraq's
compliance with its obligations not to reacquire the
weapons prohibited by the Security
Council.
IAEA –
International Atomic Energy
Agency
Mandate: Under Resolution
687 (1991): - uncovering and dismantling Iraq's
clandestine nuclear programme; - developing and
implementing an Ongoing Monitoring and Verification
(OMV) Plan. Under Resolution
1409 (2002): - Mandate extended in the context of
a new system for the sale or supply of commodities and
products to Iraq, through the adoption of the Goods
Review List (GRL).
