Following Moore's documentary "Bowling For Columbine," his new film is just as certain to stir up waves, exploring the period before, during, and after 9/11. The film criticizes President Bush's handling of the terrorist attacks and connects the Bush family with Osama bin Laden's. Moore also obtained footage shot of American soldiers in Iraq. Weeks before the premiere, the controversy over "Fahrenheit 911" has already begun. Parent company Disney ordered Miramax not to distribute the film due to its partisan nature - despite the fact that Harvey Weinstein had already contributed $6 Million to the production costs. After several weeks of arbitration, Miramax co-founders Harvey and Bob Weinstein, through The Fellowship Adventure Group, a new special-purpose company, personally acquired rights to the film and will arrange for its theatrical and home video distribution. Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and IFC Films, major players in the arena for independent movies, will release Moore's movie to theaters, and cable television network Showtime will handle the sale of rights for pay-TV. In a prepared statement Moore said: "On behalf of my stellar cast — GW, Dick, Rummy, Condi and Wolfie — we thank this incredible coalition of the willing for bringing "Fahrenheit 9/11" to the people."
