“Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, guitarist for Pantera and Damageplan, was shot and
killed during a performance on Wednesday night. The gunman ( an ex-Marine
according to Rolling
Stone ) was shot and killed by police, but not before killing Darrell
and 3 other people.
Pantera guitarist Killed In Club Shooting … a deranged audience member burst onto the stage at Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio and shot influential Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbot to death along with three other audience members. The shooter, 25-year-old Nathan Gale, was then shot and killed by police officer James D. Niggemeyer, who arrived on the scene soon after the shooting was reported … — CMJ.com
I was a fan of Dimebag Darrell’s guitar playing back when he was still known, to some of us, as “Diamond” Darrell. What a terrible loss for the music world. His talents will be sorely missed.
Police Search for Motive in Club Shooting … Abbott, 38, left Pantera with his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, to form the band Damageplan, which had just begun its first song at the club Alrosa Villa on Wednesday night when Gale dodged two band members, grabbed Darrell Abbott and shot him at least five times in the head.
He grabbed Dimebag with one hand and shot him with the other, said Kevin Minerd, among the 500 people packed into the smoke-filled nightclub to see Abbott’s new band. … — The Ledger, Columbus, Ohio

It’s very unfortunate that something like this happened. All the conservative assholes out there are using this tragedy as a way to put down metal and the whole metal scene. This could have happened to anyone. Plenty of famous people have had mentally ill people stalk them, and thretened to kill them. John Lennon, Bjork, Madonna, George Harrison, etc…. It pisses me off when I hear people say that this kind of thing is bound to happen in something so negative and dark as the metal scene. That’s bullshit! I know plenty of people involved with metal music and they are all nice, intelligent people who just happen to like heavier music. Well, that’s my tirade. R.I.P. Dime
A message from Sarah Lathrom regarding the Darrell Abbott Tribute Bike
There is a project under way here in Dallas regarding the passing of our friend and legend “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. We are having a tribute bike built in memory of Darrell to be presented to Vinnie Paul.
The motorcycle will be built in the next couple of months by Rick Fairless of Strokers Dallas Custom Choppers who is donating time and labor. Mike Dusold of Dusold Designs has agreed to do the paint and graphics work on the bike. These two together will be building a beautiful bike in honor of our fallen friend for his brother. This bike will be presented at the North Texas Rock Rally this summer July 15-17, 2005. This is to show Vinnie how much we love him and Dime and to let him know how we share his sorrow in this tragedy. All funds collected will be used to build the motorcycle and in the case that contributions gathered surpass the cost of the bike the excess funds will be donated to the families of this tragedy.
We hope that you will join us along with the other friends and fans of Darrell.
Anybody can help make this Tribute motorcycle a reality by making donations to the Darrell Abbott Tribute Bike Memorial Fund at your local Bank of America.
All things happen for a reason even if we dont understand at the moment

When i heard about this, my band and i went to the top of our mountains, just thinking of what to do. All of us were shocked, really shocked, since this has happened, it’s kind of hard for us to jam out these days, and as a singer, i feel that i’ve lost my father, because without him, i wouldn’t be the person, that i am. Not to long ago, my band and i seen him at Edgefest 10 in Albs, NM, all of us got to meet him and we were just glad to see him and vinnie, on stage, jamming out, especially his guitar solo. We looked up to him as a friend and as a god. He will be missed and for that, i will keep on pouring a shot of Jack Daniels out, and watchem go, laterz dime.
Dime is missed so much, he was absolutely the coolest person I have ever met, he always was having the best time and making everyone laugh. I’ll never forget you dude, now, “GET’CHA PULL ON BOY!!”
i just want to write something about this cause i have been puting this off for a long time. I have never cryed when someone i knew died. But when dimebag died t was like every bad thing that ever happened in my life hit me at once and i cryed for hours. I never even knew dimebag. Every time i read something about his death or talk about it or hear it i get chills. I just dont know why someone one would shoot a guitar god. Its just not something i want to hear. But dimebag will keep metal alive on the other side! ROCK ON! AND DIME WE LOVE YOU!

I’ve listened to Pantera since before i was born. My father blasted it while my mother was pregnant with me. My mother later told me that she could almost swear i was dancing in her womb. She said i’d especially get goin when there was a guitar solo. I’m 17 now and Pantera has played a huge role on my influences. When i heard the news of the shooting, i was devastated. I cried for hours. Dimebag- you will be missed very much and i hope they’re treating you good up there in rockstar heaven.
Much love and respect,
Jen H.
man i miss dime so much! the hole that has been made in the metal scene will never be filled. let’s just hope phil anselmo pulls his head out of his ass and gets back on stage(hopefully with whats left of pantera). anyway, everyone burn one for dime, and don’t forget to getcha pull on!
On December 8th I left work excited about going to the Al Rosa to attend my
first concert in many years..unfortunately…this may also be the last concert I
ever attend. I didn’t see Dime get shot..because I was talking to my wife..but I
did see Nathan Bray jump on the stage and attempt to assist Dime..only to be
murdered in cold blood.
I can still hear the feed back from his guitar
hitting the stage. That sound will haunt me forever. I still feel the shame for
not helping like so many others did..instead I hid under a pool table with my
wife.
i never met dime or saw pantera/damage plan in concert, but i feel like i lost a person in my family. people in my family have died, but none of them affected me like dime’s passing did. when i saw it on t.v. i cried a long time. still do every once in a while. i still cant believe it happened, but i keep his memory alive. i watch my 3 vulgar dvds from hell ALL THE TIME, play pantera and damage plan EVERY DAY, smoke weed as much as i can, buy as much things on him as i can. i also have a pantera/c.f.h./dimebag memorial tattoo, and a 300 and something page binder full of dimebag/pantera/damage plan pix and articles, from the internet and magazines. i am a loyal, true, hardcore fan, and will be till the day i die. i miss you dime. i have NOT heard ONE bad thing about dime. he seems like an awesome kickass person. well this was making a long story short! r.i.p. dimebag. love ya forever, stronger than all! getcha’ pull! if anyone wants to email me and talk, its: threasasolomon@yahoo.com. (sad and grieving in victoria, texas)
It’s been some time now since our hero was taken from us. It still hurts.
when i first heard about what happened i was sick to my belly and almost
threw up. It was one of the worst days of my life and i never even met Dime and
now I never will.
I just wanted to say thank you to Dime for all that whoop
ass music, and all those great shows i was fortunate to see from Pantera and
Damageplan. and most imporantly thank you for the insparation witch i will
instill in my music forever. R.I.P

Hey People,
Just my thoughts about the demise of a great person and guitarist.
I 1st saw Dime and company play in Lawton,ok around 88 or 89. They were playing a small club tearing the fucking roof off of it! I was taken by what came through the p.a speakers. It was the baddest assed shit I had ever heard.
They had time to sit at the small assed table I was at and slammed a couple 3 pitchers of beer during the break. I complimented all members on the bands preformance and had no fuckin’ idea I was watching the best guitarist that has picked up a peice of wood.
My respects go out to Vinnie and Rita and all family. God bless Mayhem for his actions and giving his life protecting all the he lived for.
I wish this b/s was a fuckin’ dream and it was all the same but it is not and will never be so.
Pick up you glass or bottle and have one for the boys……..RESPECTS>>>>>>J.R.
