According to the Dark
Horizons web site today, at a press junket promoting Kingdom of Heaven
this morning in Los Angeles, Lord of the Rings alumnus Orlando Bloom
gave a surprising answer in response to recent rumours that he had been
picked to play a young James Bond.
He reportedly said, "I'm
not doing young James Bond. My manager, my agent have never mentioned
it to me, not to date. Young or old it has never been mentioned to me.
I don't know where that came from, but I've never heard a whiff of it".
According to the rumours,
Orlando would star in a movie adaptation of Silverfish, as a young
James Bond who during break from college learns of dangerous genetic
experiments going on at a remote castle.
Orlando Bloom spoke a bit this morning about the two Pirates of the Caribbean sequels that began shooting about four weeks ago.
Bloom, looking tanned and
with the same goatee and a slightly longer hairstyle than the last
Pirates movie, confirmed that shooting will run throughout the rest of
the year with filming to move to Los Angeles once the Caribbean shoot
is up. After that he's going back to London for some much needed
R&R.
He also confirmed that
they seem to be shooting the two films separately and he hasn't read
the third film's script yet. He reprises his role of Will Turner in the
sequel and like the first film "Will is the straight man who moves the
story forward" says Bloom.
Meanwhile, the Contact
Music web site reports that Orlando is refusing to panic about the
public reaction to his first lead movie role in Kingdom of Heaven
because the true star of the film is its director, Ridley Scott.
Bloom recognises that
critics will be closely examining his performance in the film, but
insists the pressure's been taken off by Scott, who's made the actor a
mere pawn in his grand plan.
He says, "When you're collaborating with Ridley Scott, it's his baby. I feel like his is the top name on the slot.
"Of course, there's a
certain amount of anticipation to see how audiences will respond and
whether I can hold the screen for that long."
Also according to Contact
Music, Orlando has belatedly discovered the extent of his fame during
filming of Kingdomn of Heaven, and he's still shaken by the experience.
Despite achieving
international stardom in Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the
Caribbean, Orlando only became aware of his celebrity status when
thousands of screaming fans gathered to see him in Spain, where he was
shooting the period film.
Bloom said, "I'd never
had so much public attention on a day-to-day level. I'm used to crowds
at premieres, but it was a bit unnerving facing a daily procession of
people.
"I kept myself to myself
just to hold it together. I definitely felt some of that pressure. It
caught me off my guard a bit and I'm still in shock." This
