Bogdan Filipič: Numerical optimization of binary alloy solidification
Talk on Numerical optimization of binary alloy solidification given by Bogdan Filipič.
Alloys are metallic solid solutions composed to enhance the characteristics of pure metals. Because of the economic importance of alloys, numerical modeling of their solidification is a topical subject of international research. In the basic research project J2-4120 “Advanced Modeling and Simulation of Liquid-Solid Processes” we extend this research with optimization of the solidification process. We search for the course of cooling of a binary alloy that would result in the shortest solidification time and highest alloy homogeneity. The talk addresses the physical background and technical details of the problem and the solving methodology.
