A great success for a Slovenian team at the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition
Mesi Simplifying diagnostics team, where members of Department of Intelligent Systems play an important role, qualified for the final round of the prestigious Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE competition out of initially 300 registered teams. The 10$ million global competition aims to revolutionize domestic healthcare with stimulating innovation and integration of precision diagnostic technologies, helping consumers make their own reliable health diagnoses anywhere, anytime. The term »tricorder« was inspired by the science fiction TV series Star Trek. The goal of the competition is to develop a device that will monitor several vital signs and will be able to diagnose some most common diseases of modern era.
Department of Intelligent Systems developed an algorithm, based on a combination of expert medical knowledge and methods of artificial intelligence, and runs on a mobile device. The algorithm asks the patient some focused questions regarding the medical symptoms and then directs him to use a specialized module to confirm or reject the diagnosis.
The team is led by Mesi, a developer of medical equipment. Other partners include companies Gigodesign and D-Labs and academic partners from Faculty of Electrotechnics and Medicine.
