Best Paper Award received at the European conference on Ambient Intelligence – AmI 2015

Best Paper Award received at the European conference on Ambient Intelligence – AmI 2015, which took place in Athens, Greece, from 11 to 13 November 2015.
The authors: Hristijan Gjoreski, Rok Piltaver and Matjaž Gams, received the award for the paper titled: Person Identification by Analyzing Door Accelerations in Time and Frequency Domain.

The paper presented a novel unobtrusive system which identifies a person entering a room (e.g., home or office) using the acceleration produced by the door movement. The approach uses machine learning methods to analyze the acceleration signal and to recognize the person entering the room. The system was evaluated on a dataset of 1005 entrances recorded by 12 people. The results showed that it is possible to recognize the person with 90% accuracy.
